On Trend for Fall: Metallic Eyes

Monday, September 12, 2016

Metallic eye products are everywhere this fall. My favorite YouTubers are using stunning bronze and other warm-toned shades in their tutorials. And everywhere I look, brands are coming out with new glistening eye products. Looking for a more affordable metallic option? You have to try Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eye Chrome shadows.

Meijer is my favorite place to get all my favorite affordable beauty products. To celebrate new fall beauty trends, Meijer sent me one of Maybelline's new Color Tattoo Eye Chrome shadows - and I loved it so much, I bought two more! Below from left to right is "Beige Luster", "Bronze Sheen", and "Sharp Purple".  I love the versatility of these shade. You can create something soft and romantic or bold and out-there.

And here they are swatched in direct sunlight vs. natural lighting with no filters.

My favorite way to apply these cream shadows is as an eyeshadow base and matching them with a shimmer or metallic pressed shadow in a similar shade. Your first instinct may be to blend these out with your fingers, but most of the metallic effect is lost with that method. I recommend using the product's doe foot applicator all over the lid, then take a fluffy blending brush with your favorite transition shade and soften the edges.

These shadows also have some SERIOUS lasting power and they dry down quickly (I still have some of the product swatched on my arm after a shower and a night of scrubbing!). I used "Bronze Sheen" and topped it with one of my favorite Charlotte Tilbury shimmer shades and I ended up with a stunning bronze and gold makeup look. This is definitely something I would wear for a night out on the town in the Windy City or for a special event. These cream shadows are the star of any makeup look. No need to fuss with liquid liner or an intimidating smokey look. Just apply the cream shadow, set with a similar pressed shade, add mascara and you're good to go!

If I'm going to give these shadows any constructive criticism, I wish that they had slightly more shimmer. But, Maybelline does market these as a "metallic" not "shimmer" product, so I can let that one slide. Adding more glitter on top never hurt anyone!

For only $10.00 a piece, Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eye Chrome shadows are a must-have for fall! And hey, Meijer usually has pretty awesome beauty coupons and deals at their stores. Check to see if there's a deal at your local store!
